2 March 2009 9 Comments

Mozilla is an emerging browser nowadays and becoming a major competitor to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. It has recently crossed 600+ million downloads all over the globe. If you are also a user of this open source browser, you might have noticed various features it offers. One of its features is Tab focus, by which you can focus on various fields in web page pressing Tab.

This little trick will let you tweak that feature according to your preferences. Tab focus facility focuses each and every fields present in web page, namely Text fields, Form fields and links. So whenever you want to focus on particular field say text fileld, you have to cycle through each and every fields in web page.

You can tweak this default option in Mozilla so that it can focus only selected types of fields. For that, start Mozilla and write “about:config” in Address bar without quotes and press Enter from keyboard. There you will find plethora of options to crawl through. Find this option from the list: accessibility.tabfocus. It has default value as 7. You need to set this value to suit your needs. Below is the possible values and its effects.

  • Set value as 1 if you want your focus to appear on text fields only.
  • Set value as 2 if you want your focus to appear on all form fields except text fields.
  • Set value as 3(i.e., 1+2) if you want your focus to appear on all form fields.
  • Set value as 4 if you want your focus to links and linked images.

Now click Ok and you’re done. Mozilla will now focus only those fields you have entered in accessibility.tabfocus value.
