5 Del.icio.us Clients for Windows
Del.icio.us or Delicious is a social bookmarking service which lets its users to store and share bookmarks. It is similar to your browser bookmark functions where you can keep record of “Don’t miss” content you may find over internet. It is a web-based service but you can access them from your Windows PC with some free utilities. Here is a short review of 5 of them.
1. Delicer:
A tool to manage your Delicious account, it sorts your stored bookmarks from tags. You can post and remove your tags without visiting Delicious. Feeds from YouTube and Delicious are also available. A cool feature though is its ability to display web page in tool itself. So, no need to open browser to visit the bookmarked page. Other features includes support for various file types like MP3, PDF etc, Autocomplete and synchronising IE favorites. Requires .NET framework 2.0 at least. Download Delicer.
2. LocalDeli:
Simple tool itself, it lets you display your bookmarks stored at Delicious. Just enter your User name and Password and there you go. It will sit at your Windows Taskbar and will display list of bookmarks. Alt+D hotkey brings it to foreground. You can then search the list by tags, by description or by both. The biggest miss is its inability to post a new item to Delicious. But this simple Firefox plugin will do that job for you. Download LocalDeli.
3. Deliwin:
This tool loads itself to Windows System Tray, from where you can access various tags and URLs. Quite big in download size (~4 MBs) compared to other counterparts available. You can customize the way tags and other things displayed in “Preferences” menu. Also, there is an option to export all items as an HTML file, a pretty nifty feature. However, periodic auto update is not possible. You have to manually do that. Download Deliwin.
4. Netlicious:
A fine tool with many features. It lets you see web page preview in client itself. You can add/edit tags, notes, descriptions, mark a bookmark as private and more. There is also a facility of filter and search for better usability. Adding and deleting new bookmarks from client is also possible. You can also export your stored bookmarks as HTML/XML file. Its search capability is best of all by which it can search for URLs, descriptions, notes, and tags. Download Netlicious.
5. DeliciousTray:
Similar to Deliwin, this little tool loads to Windows System Tray upon starting. It sorts all your tags groups alphabetically. Clicking on any tag takes you to that tag page on Delicious. The application updates automatically at every 10 minutes. You can see all your tags in a tree view also by clicking “All Bookmarks” option. However, It can run only on Windows XP with .NET framework 2.0 minimum. No other OS is supported. Download DeliciousTray.
